About Dr. Devon Kehler

Devon loves learning! This is evidenced (in part) by their educational history. Devon earned an undergraduate degree in music therapy from Immaculata University. They then went to West Chester University for their master’s degree in English with a concentration in writing, teaching and criticism. From there, Devon completed a PhD in English focused on rhetoric, composition, and the teaching of English at the University of Arizona. Beyond a love of learning, this educational history also shows Devon cares deeply about a wide range of expressive arts. From their early career work as a music therapist to their recent work in higher education, Devon has prioritized supporting people learning to navigate the world with creative skills, curiosity, as well as strong social and cultural connections. Part of what has kept Devon creatively connected to themselves and others is a lifelong relationship with the piano. Devon knows firsthand how impactful piano playing can be. It is why Devon is eager to support students in nurturing a bond with the piano in ways that open up their creative channels while also enlivening their sense of relational  connectedness. Devon’s teaching philosophy is student-centered. Devon also believes in the importance of regularly playing for/with others. Consequently, those who learn alongside Devon can expect to be met where they are as human-beings and routinely share their music through Sloan’s recital program.
