Skylar began their musical journey at the age of five with piano lessons, building a strong foundation in musicianship from an early age. In fourth grade, they joined their school orchestra on violin, and the following year transitioned to cello—initially to fill a need in the ensemble, but quickly discovering a lifelong passion. From that moment on, the cello became Skylar’s primary voice.
Throughout middle school, Skylar dedicated themselves to developing their technique and musicality with the goal of attending Barbara Ingram School for the Arts (BISFA). They were accepted on both flute and cello, a testament to their versatility as a young musician. During their time at BISFA, Skylar’s connection to the cello deepened, ultimately leading them to focus exclusively on the instrument by their junior year. In their senior year, Skylar devoted significant time and care to college audition recordings, paving the way for advanced study in Cello Performance.
Skylar earned a Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance from Lawrence University in June 2025 and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Music Leadership (MAML) at the Eastman School of Music. As a recent graduate, Skylar brings enthusiasm, fresh perspective, and a student-centered approach to every lesson, fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment for musicians of all ages and experience levels.
