PAUL REED SMITH

The Paul Reed Smith brand has built an international name as a master guitar crafter, but the man behind it wasn’t always an expert. His first guitar was built on a dare from his professor, hacked out of a solid-core door in the college woodshop. He then built his skills by crafting a guitar a month, testing them at his own gigs and peddling them to rock stars at their concerts.

PRS: Building An Iconic Brand

Over a decade of fine-tuning, Smith settled on the design that would become a classic and established his business based on that prototype. PRS still upholds the same quality that made Carlos Santana one of its earliest adopters, including player-centered design, master handiwork, and polished details.

PRS continues to manufacture high-end guitars from premium materials, but its line has expanded to include guitars, bass guitars, and amps across a range of price points. The most affordable of its guitars come from the SE series, which offer the build-quality and aesthetics of a far more expensive instrument at a reasonable price. Even the “entry-level” SE Standard 24 boasts sturdy construction, a classic appearance, and excellent performance, making it perfect for beginner and experienced guitarists alike.
